Lorma Varsity Cubs beat  Faculty Allstars with a dozen point victory in a basketball showdown  last August 13, 2011 at Lorma Colleges gymnasium.

Maverick Ocaoi led the Cubs in an exciting  match scoring 24 points ,10 rebounds and commanding defensive plays against Allstar’s wing men. Faculty’s main man, Mark Aldrin Heights also posted  a game high 30 points which was unfortunately not enough to lift his team to victory.

Varsity initiated a rally on the 2nd quarter, tallying 33-20 blast before entering the two minutes of the chapter. The faculty all-stars called a seizefire to talk things over but when the game resumed. The half ended at 41-27, Varsity still on the upperhand.

Surprisingly, the third quarter of the game is all-Faculty show. Point guard J.Espiritu and Power Forward M.Heights engineered a 18-10 run to uplift the allstars chopping the lead of varsity  at 51-45. All Stars close to grab the lead on the last minute of play but a 2 in-a-row 3-point shot blitz of the Cubs silenced them at 54-49 to end the 3rd quarter.

Reviving their intensity on the opening minutes of the game, the varsity cubs never allowed the Faculty to have a run on the 4th chapter establishing a 14 point margin at the halfway of the last quarter.  Cubs punished the allstars for their unforced turnovers and converted these errors to fastbreak points. Faculty allstars collapsed on their defence allowing the Varsity Cubs to increase the deficit to multiple possesion lead and ultimately ending the match at 78-66.

On a post game interview, Mark Ocaoi of the Cubs, the best player of the game says: “They were good, kaso nahihiya pa kami nung una, kasi nga teachers namin sila , pero nung lumalapit na iyong lamang nila nung 3rd, iyon na, siyempre dapat kami ang manalo.

“ Talo kami eh, pero masaya kami, iilang pagkakataon na lang magkaroon ng ganitong game, lahat kami nag-enjoy,” Sir M.Heights of LCSTI said after the game. The basketball showdown justified that Lorma Faculty can still match the talent and energy of the Varsity players.
