Defending men’s champion Radiologic Technology and the avenging College of Computer Studies and Engineering bashed their respective rivals in the 2011 Intramurals Championship to clinch the Championship crown last Septermber 7 at the Lorma gymnasium.
CCSE, led by head tactician Ardee Joy Ocampo and team captain J. Medina posted a 25-17, 11-25, 30-28 victory against the defending champs to claim the title in their championship match with a grandslam record to finish the league.
The Computer Students squad put up a virtual wall at the net in neutralizing RT’s main man J. Macagba and gained the head start of the final match wrapping the first set at 8 point lead.
Surprisingly on the second set, defending champs came out strong with a premium defense against CCSE’s attacks. K.Pilor pumped in unstoppable kills for the RT which silenced the crowd and turned out the momentum on their side scoring a double digit deficit to end the second chapter equalized at 1-1 set score.
The final set of the match had been sensational as both teams able to post up hard earned 24 points after neck to neck rallies. A two point extension was implemented but due to RT’s service faults and CCSE’s unforced errors, the match was extended to best of 30 scoring in a roaring LC gymnasium crowd. The final rally had been set as the defending champs was behind a point with 29-28 scoring when a crucial kill from the opponent speared them like a dagger in their defense which ended the final face-off at 30-28 triumph.
“Tiwala lang sa teammates at hindi kami nagpanic nung final rally kahit na alam naming babawi talaga sila, Calm lang at focus iyong nagpapanalo sa amin. “ (Trust in teammates and we didn’t panic at the final rally though we know they will bounce back, being calm and focus led us to victory.) said Joerey Medina, the most valuable player of the cup.
During the elimination period, CCSE also defeated the defending champs in a convincing victory which was a part of their grand slam win-loss record for this year’s league.
After being swept by RT last year in their championship game, CCSE now regained the tilt which will be hard to defend next year as more departments train hard to snatch the crown next Intramurals.
