Bauang, La Union – The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, under the Office of Civil Defense, held a video contest promoting awareness and campaigning for safety in accordance to the nationwide disaster awareness month.
A video production with a title “Handa Ka Ba?” by the Lorma Highlights brought home a top 3 award, ousting more than 30 entries from Ilocos, La Union, Pangasinan, and Baguio City.
The awareness campaign centered on family and individual responsibility as the integral tool for safety in such cases of natural disasters. It held a teheme, “Pamilya at Pamayanang Handa, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Bansa.”
Utilizing their journalistic skills, LH, lead by production director, Lala Ganuelas, conducted a video survey assessing the awareness of students, public officials and commoners, if or whenever a disaster such as typhoons and earthquakes happen.
Through multimedia, they were able to present a lingering problem – lack of information and overall “paki-alam” among the majority of city dwellers.
As partners in purpose and intent, the OCD-RDRRMC rewarded the effort through a P 10,000.00 in check, and certificate of appreciation.
“We will continue to campaign for information and responsibility, as journalists, to our fellow Filipino people,” Ganuelas stated.
